awd question

ok my friend wants to know about this. he has a 1997 awd turbo eclipse 5spd. his question is if he is moding it up (to like in the 650+ range) what would he need to replace in his transfer case? does he need to at all will it hold up? another friend had a eclipse like it and he had it for 9 months and it spent 6 months in the transmission shop so he sold it. are the transfer cases weak? or will it hold? thanks guys

If you try to push 650hp out of the motor without doing a complete overhaul of the engine, the tranny is going to be the least of his worries!

Re: awd question

I have a vid of a 715 wheel hp 1g eclipse tuned by AMS. I dont know what that has to do with anything but you could also ask over at Racing Knowledge Online, DSMTalk, DSMTuners, DSMetc, and others for more input. But I think there are some members on here who could help you. And do a search if you haven't.

he is going to jackson automovie to get a 2.3l stroker kit and getting the block cleaned, sleved and preped for the stroker. race prep heads duel valve springs and the works. for thr transmission he is going to g-force to get there six speed that can handle 900 hp. get some kazz lsd's, a jackson auto intake manifold with 70mm throttle body, hks intercooler, and a giant turbo. but dont know how big. and a really tight suspention setup for road corces. this thing will be sweet. so the awd case wont hold up to this abuse? were can he find a awd transfer case that can?

Re: awd question

the transfer case bolts onto the transmission and is where the driveshaft to the back comes out.

This is the answer. No speculation needed on anything else. If the guy doesn't know what to do about a transfer case, he sure as hell isn't going to be making anywhere near 600hp.

Secondly, why go to jackson for a stroker kit? What in the hell is a g-force tranny and why would anyone run that over a built stock 5 speed? For the record shep is running 800+whp.

If you actually have a friend that has 20 grand lying around, have him call a real shop and ask what to do. Don't bring up a g-force transmission or 600hp or they will laugh at you. Say you have too much money and want to build a fast dsm. RRE, SBR, magnus come to mind for shops.
