Battery keeps going dead
Hi. Could use some help. Have a '95 Chevy Astro Van. When i park it at night, it's fine. In the morning, it's dead and i have to jumpstart it. Have replaced the alternator. Also, took it to an electronics shop. Guy thought it was something to do with the doorswitch (on/off when you open the door). Finally, i've noticed that the dome lights come on by themselves in the middle of the night (and, sometimes, fail to shut off after automatically coming on when i park the car). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Battery keeps going dead
Did you ever have the battery check?
I had that problem long time ago and the shop told me the battery needs replacing, at that time I thought no way. Changed the battery and it fix my van. Have Autozone check the battery, I find them big helpers. And I need all the help I can get. Hope this helps! |

Re: Battery keeps going dead
thanks for the help. 1) had the battery replaced about 1 month ago.
2) re: dome light -- not sure which position is on/off. Switch doesn't work properly so usually it's in the ?out? position. |

I've had this problem too.
I don't understand why anyone would design a car to act like this, but it appears that if you push in the dome override button (next to the light switch on my 1999 astro), the dome light no longer comes on when opening the doors, and the battery problem ceases. Before this I had the same problem, and discovered that it was the glove compartment light that wasnt turning off. Look closely around the glove compartment opening, and see if the light stays on. You may have to devise a way to keep the switch button alligned with the part that it is supposed to push against. I vaguely remember using some contact cement and washers to fix mine. |
