2001 Moaning While Underway Cold
This is more of a curiositythan a problem. My 2001 GM has a low moan , seemingly coming from the engine compartment, during the first mile of cold operation while underway. Doesn't do it in Park. Ceases after about 1 1/2 miles. No other problems while this moan is heard.

Re: 2001 Moaning While Underway Cold
That IS curious. Does it still do it if you warm it up for awhile before driving?

are u sure its from the engine because i no bearings make that noise like front wheel bearings but that wouldnt explain how it gos away after 1 1/2 miles do u have a custom sterio deck because if u also have premium soud it could also make that noise only when moving but doesnt explain the going away part i dunno man

I let the engine warm up at least 30 seconds before I put 'er in gear, regardless of weather. It doesn't have premium sound and I sometimes don't turn the radio on until I get to the main road, which is about 1 mile from my house. I don't hear the engine overspeeding as I think I would if the tranny was slipping. I remember that happening as the tranny in my 77 Cutless burned up. However, with computer controlled everything in recent cars, I'm not sure if it would overspeed even if the gears were slipping. The sound seems to come from the front driver's side, but I can't feel it in the wheel. The mystery continues... thanks for the suggestions! |
