Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Hello, I recently put a SKUNK2 Intake Manifold on my 98 prelude (non SH). Right now I am throwing a check engine light (which I pretty sure it is just the knock sensor that I busted …oops). But when the car is first started when it is cold, the engine revs up and down between 1300-2200 rpm. Basically as soon as I start the cold engine…it sounds like I have a little person in there mashing the gas repeatedly. As it gets warmer, it bounces between lower rpms until it finally warms up and then it idles pretty normal. Can you help figure that out?
Also, when I am in like 4th or 5th gear and driving about 40 mph or so, I can give it gas and the intake makes a whistling noise. I was wondering if that is normal or not. There are no vacuum leaks or anything that I can find. Do you know anything about that? Thanks iukaman 98ludeBase http://5thgenpreludes.kicks-ass.net |

Re: Skunk2 Intake Manifold
I dont think that the whistling noise is a problem but my car does the same thing with the reving I dont even pay attention to it anymore. my car only revs to about 2000 in the morning when it's about 0-10 degrees F

Re: Skunk2 Intake Manifold
ok cool. I am just glad that someone else is eharing the same thing. B/c i don't remember the manifold having any installation manuals and i am not sure if I put it all together correctly.

Re: Skunk2 Intake Manifold
I don't believe the Idle thing is too big of a deal, although I could be wrong. My engine does that too when I start the car up (although I am temporarily running without a thermostat which has alot to do with it) but I believe that's just the computer trying to warm the engine up. Again, I may be wrong, but I don't think it's a real big deal.

Re: Skunk2 Intake Manifold
I have a skunk 2 itm on my jdm h22 in my 92 4th gen and before hondata and tuning my itm made the same whistling noise. It's because when your motor doesnt have much torque (lower rpm's in 4th or 5th gear), the itm sucks in a shitload of air that the motor isn't sucking in fast enough and it makes a whistling noise. get it tuned and it'll stop. It's basically just telling you it could be puttin out like 5 more whp if you let it. haha. As for the idle. Its something to do with your tps (throttle position sensor) and you get idle bounce from this. Not a big problem at all, mine still does it too, it doesnt rob any hp. As for the check engine light, it's probly the lack of the egr valve. My skunk 2 itm did not come with a place for the egr, so you are forced to leave it off. Which is good bc the gay thing robs hp. Its the exhaust gas recirculator. It just puts some of the hot air from your exhaust into your intake manifold to make your car warm up faster (Not cool!!!) Hondata will solve this problem as well because you can bypass any check engine code you want. Thats what I did. If you dont plan on getting hondata or a tuning device, then you'll just have to live with the gay orange engine light glowing all the time. Good luck hope that helps.

Re: Skunk2 Intake Manifold
i think it is just your computer slowly and safely warming your engine.
the whistling should be normal. |
