Ford C-600 ramp truck

This is the truck I decided to use as the base for my ramp truck. It's AMT's Ford C 600. It will be a well-used and weathered old truck, used to haul the stock car in the diorama, with the camper in the other thread.
I wanted something different but not way out. The kit comes with 2 sets of frame rails, a long wheel base and a short one.

In this pic you can see how the short frame would look.

In this pic I used paper to mock up the change need to the ramp to use the longer frame.

What do you all think ? Short wheelbase or long?

Here is one shot of the front of the cab

I personaly like the long, because it makes it look less cramped but thats just me.

I'd go with the long wheel base and put a storage thingie for tools and parts between the cab and the ramp.

Something different from the usual vehicles we got here.

i say long wheel base. that kit looks like it is pretty good, as far as panel lines and such go.

Hi,

I´d prefer the long one. It´s a nice idea what you intend to do.

Re: Ford C-600 ramp truck

Looks great. What about making it that long, that ramps would go above the roof too, just like Uhaul truck that transfers trailers?

Re: Ford C-600 ramp truck

Models like these are just a blast to build with all the little details you have to make to go with them. I am looking forward to seeing your treatment of it. I agree with Dr.AK, about using the long wheel base but not extending the ramp. You can put something else there, like tools, parts, tires, a compressor or whatever, plus if you let the front overhang of the car stick into that space, you are getting both the extra room on the bed, but with the added visual interest of something between the cab and the ramp, instead of just a continuous ramp.

Anywho, that's going to be awesome. Great project.

Re: Ford C-600 ramp truck

I would go for the long ramp too.

I didn't know this kit but can't wait to see your progress on this one. I'm sure you'll put a lot of details and additional parts into it. As Willimo said: That's going to be awesome!

I made some progress here. I have painted and weathered the cab. I airbrushed the rust color and sprinkled baking soda in the wet paint to simulate rust, then masked the rust with rubber cement, and painted the cab. When dry I peeled the mask, then used washes and pastels along with drybrushing to finish the weathering. You can also see the box I added over the fuel tanks. It's just a simple box on a frame. I wanted something simple, like a shade tree mechanic would have built.
