This is a copy of a previous post.......

My 2001 was having problems with Low Coolant indicator (no real loss of coolant) then temp gage started working intermittantly then finally went south. (Car was still running great) Dealer checked out and said intake manifold had leak. Looks like something going on, ended up dealer replaced sensors, thermostat and intake manifold gaskets (at least $600.00+ bucks) and did not charge me!!! I still have my mouth open.... car has 67000 mi said something about customer relations.... Not looking gift horse in mouth, but this was a first.... Check with your dealer may be a known problem they are trying to take care of.... Never hurts to ask....

Re: 3.4 intake manifold gasket

Don't rule out the water pump. On my old 3.1 Lumina that went first, and that is an easy replacement.

All GM transverse 6 cylinders leak from the intake manifold it is a very common problem.

Wow, looks like you have a good dealer. Our Blazer started leaking at 13K miles, under warranty. After two dealers the only repair we got was stop leak in the radiator. Sawdust pills in a new Chevrolet for a warranty repair! I'm still in shock. Nice to see there are a few decent dealer service shops around.

2002 Impala, 3.4L
3/9/05 @ 55k miles
9 registered trips to 4 dealers in Central PA - still looking for a good one!!

1. Intake gasket @ 52k - thanks dexcool, $800+
2. Brakes @ ~10k, 15k, 25k, 40k, 50k - warping rotors - $250-350/each time.
3. Rear Doors hard to open - still an issue
4. Steering shaft - $220 (twice)
5. I had to replace some steering boots - clunking when turning at low speed (driveways, stop and turns)
6. Ignition switch @ 11k
7. And other parts I am sure I missed.

Pros
- I do like the ride, very comfortable
- Cool styling

Cons
- Repairs, Repairs and more repairs.

Re: 3.4 intake manifold gasket

Add to that replacing the passenger side window regulator and you got it... I'm really tired of the repairs I'm had to do to my 2000 Impala. On the plus side, it does ride nice, is comfortable and gets better than average gas mileage.

I am glad it worked out for you - twice!! You didn't mention the amount of miles you have but it makes you wonder why it needed done a second time? Well if dexcool eats the gaskets (even the newer designed ones) then we have a problem and could see multiple repairs down the road. I am not sure at this point if I need to remove the dexcool or not. I sent another letter to GM on my service request - still unanswered. Well if I could have replaced mine for free I would not have been so sore about the whole adventure. I was out of warranty, the dealer hasn't been much help except to take my money everytime it needs fixed. I have been putting up with the warped rotors almost since day one.

Well whatever... you want to call it.
--> Shimmy and vibration from highway speeds with light braking. One time it was so bad the car was hard to control coming off the highway and almost shook me off the road. Took car to dealer the next day, dealer stated and I quote "the front rotors are warped and need replaced" -- $312.78

Had it been under warranty the dealer would have re-machined the rotors and reused the old pads. Just enough to, hopefully, get it through the warranty period, then it's replace all worn parts, at your expense. Not real impressed with GM's service these days as you can see.
