General Intrigue Fixes

Hello All, I have owned a 2001 since Oct. 2001. It was a prior rental with 24K miles. Overall, good experience, with some caveats. (1) flickering headlights, source was Code 0410. Changed relay, lasted for about 2 weeks. Changed air pump, hose and relay, lasted for about 1 year. Now I ignore the code. (2) Hard starting when warm + stalling when RPMs low, usually when turning. Fixed by changing Fuel Pressure Regulator. ($85 at Autozone) took about 15 minutes. (3) Clunking noise in steering: Intermediate steering shaft was noisy at U-joint. Pulled rubber/plastic cover off under dash-lubed liberally with grease. Did the job for 2 years.

I now have clunking sound, when turning wheel to right. Suspect rack problems. Also have intermittent ABS, Trac Control & Brake idiot lights come on. Believe it is wheel speed sensor related. Will look into changing both front hubs. Also, may change rack out, looking for a deal on remanufactured steering rack.

The car has about 102,000 miles on it. Still looks almost new on outside. Interior materials are crap though, cheap plastics, lousy carpet, loosely covered seats. I stay away from the dealer, they run a major league rip off. (Mark Christopher Chevy/Olds/Cadillac/Hummer) in Ontario, CA.

Re: General Intrigue Fixes

The intermitent ABS/Traction Control and Brake lights are because of the wheel speed sensor. It is probably one of the front sensors. The clip that hold the connector plug gets loose and comes off the holder alowing the entire connector to vibrate and weaken the wires untill one wire breaks inside the insulation.
I just replaced the wheel speed sensor on my '99 Intrigue and managed to take some pictures while doing the replacement. Let me know if you need the procedure, I have it on .pdf, and some pics to help you.
The whole job took me 2 hrs and that was with taking pictures.

Hey, that is really thoughtful and nice of you to document the entire procedure - and offer it to someone else!!

abs

My light is always on abd the antilock system diesn't work. How much did you have to pay for a sensor? Do you have to get it at the dealer?

I would love to see how it is done.
