CEL on but no codes

i took my car to the shop the other day becuz they guy who always looks at my car tells me everytime my CEL comes on to bring it to his shop and he will look at it.. so the other day im driving and it comes on.. so i turn around and go to this guys shop. he put my car on the computer thingy and nothing showed up. He said everything was fine... but my car is not running fine.. First 5-10 mins of driving or the first 3-4 stop lights my car bogs down and wants to die...only way for me to keep it from dying is by putting it in park an waiting until the light turns green... im not sure what it is.... its really bothering me...

He also said my tranny is shifting.. but it is... its a light shifter.... but for some reason i cant get it to go from 3rd to 4th gear.. i have an automatic... I cant get on the freeway becuz my car doesnt seem to like going more then 60... an living in cail.. if u go 60 u belong in the slow lane... so i have to take side streets to work.. its a bumpy road the last 2 miles to my work... could it be my battery cables getting lose?

Re: CEL on but no codes

The fact that the CEL light is on/was on says there is a problem code stored to be retrieved. It sounds like your car is going into "LIMP" mode due to this problem. A sensor of some kind has failed, and the ECM must make guesses to keep the engine running. In limp mode, engine performance is sacrificed to just keep the engine running. Engine timing is not advanced at higher speeds giving you sluggish acceleration and poor gas mileage. Your problem may also be related to not shifting or it may be the ECM preventing that due to another problem.

You should see a different mechanic and seek a second opinion.

You can also try resetting the ECM codes to see if the problem is persistant (CEL light comes on again) or if the old remembered code (CEL light now is off) somehow caused your problem. To reset the codes, either disconnect the battery or remove the fuse for the fuel pump (engine compartment) for 30 seconds.

Re: CEL on but no codes

hi. here are your neon codes.
12 just means loss of power, which is when it died out
24 throttle position sensor out of range
55 will always show..it means end of codes.

you may have to replace the throttle position sensor.. thats it.
hopefully that works for you.

once you disconnect battery for a min or 2 then reconnect it you should clear codes.
