P1406
1995 Blazer, w engine. check engine went on last night after i pulled in the driveway. my idle was really low and was very rough, going from 300 to 1200. i hit the gas when it went way down, and it stayed at 1300 for a bit then dropped to 200 and the check engine went on and then my car stalled. i plugged in the code reader from advance, it said P1406 aux. emmissions control. what is that??? clogged egr? o2 sensor maybe? thanks

Pull the EGR valve and clean it, make sure you have a new gasket on hand (less than 2$)...search the post on "how to " ...not a difficult job at all and hopefully it's just a piece of carbon causing all your problems...reset the puter and all should be good...

It's not that the EGR may be faulty but pieces of carbon brake loose from with in the plenum and clog the small holes and the pintel within the egr valve..sometimes just a good cleaning resolves the issue...

Re: P1406
i pulled the egr valve. it was black and i didnt see a piece of carbon blocked the pintle. the pintle moved freely until i push it kind of hard, not too hard though, and it got stuck down for a split second. sprayed it with carb cleaner and it moved freely, even when i pushed it harder. check engine went off so i guess that solves my problem, until it happens again. THANKS
