Why does everyone want their blazer to go faster ?

Just an observation.....

Some folks on this forum seem to want their blazer to perform like a sports car, high horsepower etc....

I am all for clean running and some upgrades, but keep in mind that if it's like my 99 it's 4350 pounds of steel (4-dr 4wd) !! That's alot for a little 4.3L to lug around.....just seems kinda funny.....

Like BlazerLT says...if you want speed...getta mustang, or vette or something....

Anyway have a nice holiday all and thanks for your help in the past.!

Re: Why does everyone want their blazer to go faster ?

Thats why i call the blazer and jimmys modern day station wagons. 4 doors and 4x4 = Family vehicle. So I own 2 of them for just that. If I want to go fast I pull out the 69 camaro, if i want to cruise I get out the 65 chevelle convt. But others may not have the choice in life. Guess thats why nascar came out with truck racing. 53% sales were trucks and suv's. To each their own.

Well I don't think it's all aobut speed, if it were I would get a stang or a vette.
But how much easier is that then replaceing that 4.3L with a V8? I think it's kind of a pride thing. Something to show off to your pals. If a avarage person look'd at a stock mustang, 05, they'd say 'Thats cool'; but if they saw a Blazer with a small block V8 pushing 350 HP and all polished up they'd be speachless. Shure if it adds alittle more 'giddy-up-n-go' at the same time, the question is why not?.

Why not ?

For me it's an economic thing....If I dropped, bagged it, repainted, put 20's on it, decked out with a super stereo, or maybe add hydraulics...that make my farmer neighbors say..."what-da-hell-did-you-do-dat-for?"

But I understand....it's a testosteronial-mechanical thing...totally understand...just the aspect of putting a high performance motor in a tank rather than a sleek stripped down modified honkin Extreme 2-dr.

That said....I will be building up my tool box with a whole set of new tools, and a rolling box, air tools...all to the wife saying...what-da-hell-ya-gonna-do-wit-all-dem tools?" I say....work on my blazer, my other truck....so I guess I understand......

Re: Why does everyone want their blazer to go faster ?

Have you noticed that GM has basically cut their stationwagon lineup (except for the vibe) and is slowly discontinuing their minivan lineup (byebye astrovan&safari). Picking up the slack are those new envoys and trailblazers which ARE today's mini-vans and stationwagons. They have no offroading capability and are designed for comfort and luxury for a family (plus they look like whales). Who knows how long GM will continue the blazer and zr2 line... I think it's too bad for the SUV/ truck community that these "SUV's" are so pricey and are somewhat unfeasible for use in any offroad or even "snowy road" application.

I don't consider racing my jimmy, but it is a whole lot of fun to go places in it. I like driving it on snowy trails to go ice fishing or through farm fields to go play paintball. Though my back seats are kind of cramped for 3 people(who cares?- those rating polls can shove it!), I wish GM would keep capability in mind when they think up new vehicles.

Faster, faster, faster

The Chevy S-10 Blazer is as most have stated is running for all it's worth already. I think they run fine stock. I can leave black marks on the road with mine. The speed limit in most states is 65mph if that's not fast enough I pity your wallet when the cops catch you. Here in Illinois the fine is pretty steep for speeding. It's a heavy vehicle with a small engine. Wanna go fast get another vehicle that goes fast.

Re: Why does everyone want their blazer to go faster ?

Hypocritically I would put a V8 in mine if I was forced to spend a couple grand on it (or had to replace the engine anyways). It would be even more fun for offroading and driving around town to show my ZR2 buddies. Plus then I could be more than just a spectator at the Woodward dream cruise.

Re: Why does everyone want their blazer to go faster ?

I'm sorry but I would not prefer speed over torque. I would rather be able to go further offroad or tow more than a souped up anything. From what I understand more horsepower means less torque which means less ability to do what I want and more ability to just sit there and spin. If I do any mods to my vehicle it would be to raise it up maybe add a different motor to get more pulling power (evenr though of going diesel) but then I came back to reality. College student, loans out my butt, used Blazer that needs constant upkeep, why not just keep what I got (except for the wheels already changed them to Bridgestone duller 3s) and save the rest of my money for an eventual pickup truck to do my hauling and maybe keep the blazer for family if I ever get family.

Without torque, there is no speed. (unless you're driving downhill)
