raw fuel smell when cold

My 94 silverado with a 5.7 tbi has a raw fuel smell on cold morning starts and likes to die when i first drive away after that it does not die again can you help

Re: raw fuel smell when cold

A couple of things to start checking are; Remove the air cleaner cover so you can see the top of the fuel injectors then start the truck and have a look around the top of the injectors to see if they are leaking fuel, my 88 did and caused the fuel smell when cold. Not saying that is your problem , but a place to start. Also with the wanting to stall when cold sounds similar to a problem i had with my 88 as well, check the TBI base gasket, it is most likely in need of replacing. When my 88 started acting up when cold , hesitation ect , i found that the base gasket was the problem there as well. Only a piece approx 2" long left of the entire gasket, the rest i guess broke up and went through the engine.....
