95 PA stalling problem
Hi, I have a 95 Buick Park Av that has been driving my mechanic & myselfe insane. It will be running great and for no apparent reason shuts off. It has a new battery, control mod. crank sensor, and alternator. The red dot on the amp meter will flicker or sometimes come on & stay on. We've put meters on it and it seems to be getting more amps than the gauge registers. When it shuts off it will not start until it sits for aprox 3 minutes. Then it will start. It starts immediately in the mornings and there is no specific time that this happens. It acts as if someone just reaches over & turns the key off. Has anyone have any suggestions? John D.

I would check to see if you battery cables are clean and in good condition. also check the harness on the alternator. if its loose or comes off the red light will flicker and or stay red. let us know...

We have put in a new alternator and within the past 8 months a new heavy duty battery. The main problem is this shutting off. No warning. Then if it sits 3-5 minutes it starts up. If you tap on the amp light it goes off. We don't know if it may just be loose. We checked the connectors for any loose ones.

could be a problem in the ignition switch, there known to have wiring problems and or go bad. Also, the resistor in your igntion key could be screwed up. sounds stupid but try a different key.

I tried to spare key that is hardly used and it didn't make a difference. We had them install a new crank sensor yesterday. It was still under warranty to see if this may make a difference. Is there a relay or a reset switch on these somewhere that would make it cut off then restart at an almost given time?

I bet your problem is in the ignition switch itself. could be the ( ECM ) flaking out.. unfortunatly with these issues its trial and error.. The ECM is easier to try first. There are relays, there located on the firewall, under the hood. let us know...
