Any Recommendations on Front Brake Pads
I have noticed that my 99 Aurora doesn't brake as well as I would like under wet conditions. It is as if the brake pads get 'water lubed'.
I have been looking at Inet sites - there appear to be two classes of replacement brake pads - ceramic and metallic. Any advise (or experience) with either type? |

Re: Any Recommendations on Front Brake Pads
I got the ceramic pads from autozone..... I think they were in the range of 40 bucks... I positively love em' no brake dust, wear well, and stop good... easy on rotors as well. I also have the ceramics on the rear... love them too... but life of the rear ones seem to be short... since feburaury last year I've replaced them twice making this the 3rd set of pads on the rear... but at no cost other than labor of me doing it... with the 2 year warranty on them.

Sounds like youve got an issue there. The fronts should not be outliving your rears like that. Infact is should be the exact opposite. Regarding pads- The cermaic lined ones work best. Ive used the reybestos quite stops $50 ? a set the last two times with good results. No dust last long and breaking seem better. FYI- You will never get the GREAT braking I know your looking for with these cars. unfortunately a design flaw for these cars was making them with too small of front brakes. There is no BIG BRAKE mod available for them so your pretty much stuck. But the ceramics definantely do perform the best.

Not all Ceramic Pads created Equal
Just a note here.....
Not all Ceramic brake pads are created equal....like anything else. If the pad contains just 1% ceramic material, the maker can call them Ceramic. Just beware. I just put a nice set 22% ceramic on my Silverado and they cost me $220 for the set. Just the pads. You can get "ceramic" pads for about the same as regular pads, because they are about the same. No real upgrade. Steve |

Re: Any Recommendations on Front Brake Pads
In '97 they upgraded the rotor size in the Aurora. Before that they were "way" too small. Now they are about whats expected for a luxury car thats more concerned with interior appointments and ride. Unfortunately the Aurora is not designed enough as a luxury sport sedan. To softly sprung and too small brakes and needs bigger sway bars.
