4.8 vs 5.3

I am looking to buy a full size chevy and don't know what engine to buy the 4.8 or 5.3. Fuel mileage is a consideration. But I am a contractor and will be towing a small trailer often.

I am looking for a truck from 1999-2002 and want to know what would be the best truck and why. My requirements are ex-cab and 2x4 and I would like the 4th door.

Re: 4.8 vs 5.3

Well, if you want the 4th door, then you have to get a 2000 and up (and not all 2000s had 4 doors).

If you can find one, and can afford it, go ahead and get the 5.3. Its got more torque then the 4.8, so it would handle your trailer better.

Also, there are probably a hundred other threads about this, so you might want to check some of those out, to get more in depth answers (and more real world experiences).

Re: 4.8 vs 5.3

I hope you can find a 4 door 2x4. I had a hard time just finding a 2x4 silverado ingeneral, and when i finally did I had to take the 3 door, and its a pain in the ass. If you end up in the same position as I was, keep searchin for the 4 door. Good Luck.

Just look for the best deal, regardless of motor size. They are pretty close to performance stock, and the 4.8L won't have any problem pulling a small trailer around. You won't hardly notice a difference between the two as far as gas mileage, so just search around until you come up with a good deal on one. Good luck.
