cold tranny

Hi, I'm new here and don't nkow a great deal about cars. I have a 93 Intrepid and I'm having an odd problem. When the car is warm, everything is fine. When the car is cold, it doesn't want to shift. I have to let it run for 10-15 minutes to get everything warmed up. I live in the Northeast and it has just started getting cold. Can anyone tell me if this is a serious problem, idiosynchrosy, or just a fact of life with this car? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: cold tranny

I have the same problem. If you have taken your car to anywhere to change the transmission fluid you need to take it to the Dodge dealership and have it changed. Most other places don't put Dodge transmission fluid it it. I don't know the difference but Intrpids need to have specail transmission fluid in them, and you need to make sure you tell them to put Intrepid transmission fluid in it!! I have found this out a year ago.

ATF +3 or +4

Chryslers use ONLY +3 (before 2000) or +4 ATF for trans

Do NOT have changed with regular oil change places Dextron III or Mercon and then have them add an "additive" to bring it up to the standards so to speak.

You can buy the +3 or +4 ( I only use +4 now), at a Chrysler dealership at the parts counter. Some auto supply places may have it, but only get the one with Mopar on it.

It's around 16 dollars for 4 quart gallon jug. Bring it with you to your flush place (bring 2 gallons). They will use that.
