Question 2001 silverado remote start

I am looking for wiring diagram for my01 silverado with a 5.3L engine. Iam wanting to install a simple/cheap remote starter. I purchased a bulldog starter from wal-mart. Any advice would be very helpfull also. There has been a few local techs. who tried to advise me not to install it. Thank!!!!

Got a remote start on my '01 Silverado and works like a champ. I have a 2way remote so I can see that it has started and it does easily up to 1/4 mile away.

I would not put a bulldog unit in your truck unless you don't care much. They are riddled with problems. I have a Python 571xp www.directed.com They have do it your self kits under the Rattler and Boa lines.

i've put several bulldog starters in. go to their web page and you are able to input the make and model and get specific guidlines with colors and locations for that vehicle. their tech support is pretty good too.

I would at least get a good bypass module, the PLDATA should be one of the easiest to wire(do a google search for pldata bypass)

Strange. I put in a remote starter & the anti-theft system would randomly prevent me from starting the car (but only on days I really needed to be somewhere). I had a pass lock defeat box, and still had the problem. Just an FYI...

Actually, that can be one of three things...bad install, bad or cheap bypass, or the truck's system is failing.

I 2nd the bypass kits from www.bypasskits.com They seem to work better on the newer GM trucks from '03-'05. Just did an '05 the other day with their unit. Was great doing keyless, alarm, horn, lights, and pk2 bypass all from the purple data wire at the OBD2 connector!

Re: 2001 silverado remote start

that's what I mean too, the older bypass(and cheaper) usually have you cut and splice the security wires(22 ga, maybe smaller) which you almost have to solder them to get a reliable splice, with the PLDATA and others like it you tap into the OBD2 connector interface to the security system,

Most of these bypasses are 4 wire hookup, one wire for power, one for ground, one to remote start(bypass trigger) and the connection to the OBD

Do you want a wiring diagram from the OEM book? or you looking for a aftermarket wiring diagram that tells how to splice in to your existing? I have every wiring diagram you can think of, for OEM.

Re: 2001 silverado remote start

www.bulldogsecurity.com is the place to get wiring info on the truck. Test everything though because their info isn't always correct.
