Shift Lever Problems

My mother-in-law is having problems with her Sidekick. I believe it's a '92. Anyway, her rig won't shift out of "Park" half the time. She has to let it sit & try later after it's been running a while.

The button to move the shift lever won't go in - and yes, she's pressing the brake when she tries to shift

Her sons replaced the battery a while back, and the "Brake" light has been on ever since. Wonder if something got messed up. Or maybe there's a switch coming from the brake pedal or a solenoid or something....

Thanks in advance.

Re: Shift Lever Problems

Hello?........

I've looked around for a switch or something & can't find anything. Any ideas? Similar problems?

Hey Stan,
Have the same problem with our 97. Not sure whats happenin but have noticed you can now hear the switch and feel it in the shifter when it is working right. There is a switch or solenoid in the shifter that is fired off by the brake pedal being dedpressed.I will probably pull the shifter apart tomorrow and see whats up.Good luck,if ya find out anything let me know and i'll do the same.Bill
