Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

i know, i had a hicas car, and its a pain in the ass, there is a steering wheel angle sensor behind the wheel that gets in the way. i have a momo jet, and was going to put it on, but you have to remove the sensor, and cut the like 15 odd wires off of it, and then your hicas will not work. but if your hicas is already not working, which mine was, no big deal, just get the hicas eliminator and forget about it.

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

So you can't change the steering wheel if you have hicas?

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

yeah i don't understand that.. i'm guessing the wiring from the dash has something to do with it.. as far as i know hicas isn't something you should worry about so much. saying you have a hicas model says NOTHING but the fact that it has hicas.. every part of the car should be easily interchangeable with aftermarket parts except for the diff. all mainstream suspension, rims and stiffening products will fit a hicas model or non hicas model. hicas isn't even a model. its normally se or le. the only thing that has to do with hicas in the interior is the light beside the rear windshield button that says if its working or not.. and it wouldn't make sense to have the wiring for that light to be in the steering wheel cause they're not even relatively close to eachother..

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

no no no, you see, for the hicas to work it has to have a steering position sensor. in order for the car to know which way your turning, and how fast your doing it, the hicas car has a notched ring around the steering column with a photoelectric or magnetic pickup that detects that motion. its a big ring and plastic box that get in the way of the adapter hub for most aftermarket steering wheels. so it pretty much has to go. you can put an aftermarket wheel on, but you must remove the sensor, voiding any hicas action that could have worked.

so its possible, but sucky

sorry for the confusion

So you can't have HICAS and an aftermarket steering wheel?

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

on a second note, d-bo, in your sig, its says next on your list is a pivot headlight controller. do you just really want to pay for that luxury, cause its free, and built into the factory wiring

correct logik, unless you can make accomodations for the angle sensor... like spacing the wheel hub out from the column covers a bit, but im not sure how that would work

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

if hicas is wired into the steering wheel then why doesn't it work at low speeds??
and what do you mean built into the factory wiring?? how would you control it then? i know you can lower them manually but other than that i've never heard of any other way..
i already bought the controller, i just have to get it installed

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

d-bo, the hicas is made not to work at low speeds, its electronically controlled. you have to go between like 25 and 50 for it to activate.

and the pivot headlight controller, if you have the headlight pop up switch, the left most top button, that just pops the headlights up for cleaning, just pull it out(it just has tabs) and cut the brown wire on the back of it. then put your headlights up by turning your lights on, then press the new button to hold them in place, and turn your lights off. what the new button does is just fix the position of the lights. now, press the new button again, and the lights will begin to fall, so press it again when their laze and it will hold their position. it sounds hard, but its really easy, and free, and build into the wiring. so try it if you like.

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

post it in a new thread if you like.. its never been suggested before.. as far as i know.. other guys have said they disconnect the actual headlight lifter and turn then knob manually but this seems kinda cool so i'll give it a try and see what happens..

Re: Racing steering wheel and hub for HICAS?

For the Steering wheel, can't you just hook that sensor up to the aftermarket steering wheel?
