Question Silverado Alternator Upgrade

I hope someone can help me since I can't find anyone else who can.

I have a 2003 Silverado Z71. I replaced the stock 105 amp alternator with a 160 amp alternator (www.motorcityreman.com). They recommend changing the stock alternator wire - which is an 8 ga fusible link - to a 4 ga cable. Will I do any damage to my truck if I take away the fusible link and go to a regular cable? If I have to keep an inline fuse, what size fuse should I use? Please let me know what I need to do. The snow is coming and I want to solve this problem before I have to start plowing - which is the reason for the bigger alternator. Thanks-

Re: Silverado Alternator Upgrade

I would definitely put a fuse on there if there was some sort of protection before. The question is What Size fuse?
