2001 Dodge Durango Heater & AC Problem

Need some help. My Heater and AC went dead on my 2001 DODGE DURANGO and I was wondering if anyone have this same issue. When I drive down the highway I can feel the heat coming out of the air vent but it won't turn on. I changed the heater motor blower and that was not the problem. Can anyone help?

i have that same problem, i was wondering have you checked the switch or relays. If you figured it out let me know, please.

Question for both. Can you here the blower motor actually running?

If so, the switch that actually turns the heater/ac on and off (the middle one) is a vaccuum system. There are several hoses running up to this switch and down to the vaccuum unit. This switch turns on the heater/ac also tells it which vents you want it coming out off. Probably is a leak in this system. I don't know too much about this system but maybe someone else around here might???

No I can't hear the blower motor running at all. I switched out the blow motor but that didn't fix the issue. Anymore ideas?

I'd probably still venture out into at least testing that switch/vaccuum system. If you've checked fuses and replaced the blower. If the seal on the vaccuum is broken and air pressure isn't going into the correct chamber the fan relay is probably just not turning on. Keep us posted as to what you find.

Just had a question for you, does your motor run at all? If the resister for the motor is bad, most of the time your switch that controls the fan won't turn the fan on, which was the case with mine. The resister is located next to where the blower motor is located. You can check out this site if you need help in locating the blower motor resister.

It's a site I put together with different information that I'm always adding to. The resister is a very common item that causes the blower motor to quit working. Not sure if you have the rear heat/ac, but if that is working and your front isn't, more than likely it's the resister. You will need a 7mm or 8mm socket with a u-joint extension in order to access the 2 screws to remove the resistor panel. So if you look directly up from underneath the passenger floor, you should see the long skiny rectangular wiring harness with one 7mm-8mm screw on each end. The part can only be ordered from the dealer. The part runs around $10-$17 bucks.

Thank you for all your help. That was the exact problem. I went to the dealer and bought the resistor for 12 bucks and install it myself and now my heater/ac works perfect. The dealer wanted 100 buck just to look at it. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My durango is doing the exact same thing mentioned above. The rear fan blows and acts properly. The front fan does not react to the knob being turned but I can feel some air 'seeping' out while I drive. A while back the low and mid settings went out. Then a few weeks ago the full blast went out too.

Would getting the part you mentioned work for this as well? Also, the link you have listed is under construction. Do you have any more recomendations? I'd like to do this myself but don't have much experience working on my Durango.

I have the same problem on my 2001 Dodge Durango RT! (357,000 miles)My ac/heat will only work on highest setting. I do have rear controls but have not checked them yet. I need to fix before it completely goes out! There is absolutely nothing happening at all when on two lowest settings. It doesn't even sound like its running on those settings. Any suggestions anyone?

I, too, have a 2001 Dodge Durango. I can understand the vacuum problems, as I am having problems with the front mode control. But my question has to do with the rear controls. There is no or little air coming from the roof vents and so it does not get warm in the rear of the truck. The blower and temperature controls are both turned to the high and warmer positions. The ventilation grilles are free of obstruction. The only way it gets warm back there is to the discomfort of the front passengers. What could be causing this?

Hello

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango. I've seen all over the internet that Dodge has had a problem with the blower resistor.

Mine went out. I replaced it in 10 minutes on my own. Worked for 2 days and then blew again.

I was told if the resistor keeps blowing it could be the blower motor. Took it in to the dealer (dumb) and had them replace the blower and resistor..resistor blew again last night...5 hours later...my question is:

Does anyone one else have an idea of what could cause the resistor to keep blowing? could it have to do with the wiring?
