check engine light, torque converter

my 99 BMW 528 check engine light came on. Took it to a friend with a code reader which said "torque coverter" he reset it, it has not come on again. Anyone seen this? BTW the scan tool he used is a high dollar one made for Dodge but works on all vehicles.

This came up on my 1999 528IT also, it comes and go, sometimes the CEL dissappears for days and comes back with the same code. The car runs normally, haven't seen any symptom rather than the anoying light.

What mileage is on your car? mine has 101k miles.
