the country is more accuratly split between: rich and poor. progressive and traditional. civil libertarians and moralists. the people and the government. the minority who care and the majority who dont. its not so much that we need a revolution in our government, but rather a revolution in the people. democracy only works if the people are informed, thoughtful, and willing to be open minded, and i think this forum alone (as well as any confrontation with the general public) serves as proof to the opposite. since this is an automotive forum, i'll draw an appropriate analogy. our government is like an engine in need of a serious rebuild. the concept is a good one, we like the general idea, but there are things that could be repaired, and junk that needs to be cleaned out. but if that doesnt get us running right however, it might be time for an engine swap.

The country is split in a million different ways, but not so much to cause a revolution. Guess what, its always been that way.
Since we just had an election, the losers are out wanting change - in general. The winners like how things are - in general, and then others wouldn't have cared who won as long as their handouts keep coming. In a revolution, you're going to fight someone. Literally. Somone will die. Who would you take up arms against? Unless the US falls apart into the individual states (.00000000001% chance of this) there would be a fight going on. Who will you fight? Will the anti-gun owner be in a bind? What Will the peace demonstrators demand? Will the people who wait for their handouts be teaming with the taxpayers who support them? Would the US (in whatever shape its left in) keep a veto in the UN in the same way the Soviet Union did after it disolved? Sure, some of those questions are silly, but the fact is a revolution is almost always a violent thing. If anyone thinks one is coming, they should think about who it is they would be facing off against. If the lazy welfare recipients, unmotivated hand-out recievers, socialists, communists and people named Ted would get together in one area - then I'd support a revolution to sever them from the country and see how well they can survive.

Re: Is it time for a revolution?
Republicans and Democrats are not oppostie, actually out of all of the political parties, they are the most alike. They are both moderate parties that only differ in the way the conduct themselves on certain issues. Of course there are small differneces on issues like abortion and gay marriage, but when it comes to Nat'l Security and the War in Iraq, they don't differ on whether or not we should have security or be in Iraq, but rather how we as a nation should handle these issues.
They are not all greedy either. Some use their political influence to boost their personal bank accounts like Vice President Cheney did with Haliburton, but since a few politicians have done some scandalous activities, that doesn't mean everyone has.

Re: Is it time for a revolution?
How about we just get rid of corruption (ok so that's impossible). That alone would make a whole lot of things right, regardless of who is in office.
Revolution isn't called for at this time, but the government sure could use an overhaul. Most of the systems (electoral college) were put in place and worked well when they were started, 200 years ago. But the times have changed and government should be upgraded to reflect that. |

Putting people into two groupls, Republican or Democrat, isn't how the country is divided. If you're saying people in this country are split, it's between the liberals and the conservatives. That is their core political beliefs and that's how they are split, not by the name of the party they joined.

Re: Is it time for a revolution?
The two major politcal parties is what makes america, and every other democracy great. America would not stand if we didnt have people constantly competing against each other trying to make America better. I am not a liberal or a conservative. I simply go with who I think will continue to make America the greatest place to live.

It's time for a revolution, but not an armed one. It's time that the majority who would not vote Republican had the chance to reclaim their voices at Congress. |
