When floored, it revs then goes

Ok in my S10, say im going like 20, 30 mph or something, speeds you reach in towns, not above say 50 mph. When I punch it at lets say 25mph to screw around it revs up, then downshifts and takes off hard. I don't believe anything is wrong with the transmissin (slipping), it will get a second gear scratch on poor blacktop (no, it dosen't have a shift kit, 700R4 tranny). It just is kinda funny I think. It seems odd that when you floor it, it dosen't increase speed for a 1/2 a second or more, just the rpms go up to about say 4k-4.5k (guess, i don't have a tach), then downshifts and goes. Wondering if other people's trucks to this to them or what. Also wondering if this is just happening while while the transmission is inbetween gears while downshifting, and its just making excess heat. I can't imagine the torque converter slipping at such a high rpm. Kinda thinking outloud (well you can't hear me, but you know what I mean)

Thanks

Re: When floored, it revs then goes

Mine does kind of the same thing but it still kind of jerks, i have a tach and mine get about 5200rpm. Mine takes off pretty good. What do you have done to the truck. It might be because your engine has to breath with that constricting stock air intake. I have a cold air intake and a bunch of other stuff to help my engine breath better. Also, s-10's arent really made for easy soft shifts. Thats why they dont cost much. I think your problem may just jerk to vioently because of stress you put on the transmission. When was the last time you changed your tranny fluid and filter. I just changed mine and it shifts alot better now.

It has been awhile since I have changed the tranny fluid, and the only thing done to the truck engine wise is the snorkel intake is removed and its just the aircleaner as a stand alone unit.

Thanks

Re: When floored, it revs then goes

Also, do i have to remove the transmission crossmember to get the transmission pan off?? I was going to change it a couple weeks ago, saw that I thought i had to remove the cross member, and decided I didn't have the time right now.

Thanks

Re: When floored, it revs then goes

My Jimmy used to do that. It would rev while making a long downshift when accelerating form 20-30mph. I just installed hypertech programmer and it fixed that. It changes the shift points and shift firmness so your tranny doesn't downshift so erratically (and act slow and confused) when accelerating at midspeed. My tranny holds the power 100% better, so it doesn't usually downshift unless you really gun it.

I f your vehicle can be hyperteched I would suggest you do it! It's really nice because now it feels like my jimmy shifts as it should.

Its a pain even with the crossmember out of the way....I did mine on my 4.3 zr2 2 weeks ago....saved me some cash, but not sure if I'll ever do it again.

Re: When floored, it revs then goes

the transmission is designed to downshift on full throttle. there is a kickdown cable connected to the throttle linkage. when ever you open the throttle to full the cable gets pulled and the trans downshifts. it is normal!

No, you can't get a programmer for every truack.

He will have to use a chip, there are no programmers available for 1995 and older models with an OBDI computer.

Can't get anything for that year. You might try a 1996 programmer seeing the 1995 is indeed a primitive OBDII, but there is no guarantees it works.
