i was wondering...........
when it comes to changing oil. is it realy nessesery to change it if...your way below millage.? like if you only have 1500 on the oil...but 6 months have passed. does it go stale in the engine? who knows how long it sits in the bottle. |

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
1500 on the oil, keep it in your engine.
Oil does not go stale.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
And now you are understanding things, yes, it is yet another ploy to get you to change your oil more often even if you do not drive much.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
Depends on whether it sits in the garage, or is driven short trips all the time. Short trip driving would need more often oil changes than the mileage would dictate.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
Oil Contamination Still Occurs When Your Engine Is Not Running. It Is Not A Scam. Over Time Oil Losses Its Quality Due To Environmental Reasons. All The Additives That Are Put In Oil Dont Last The Hands Of Time Or Mileage Used, That Is Why They Label It As Time And Mileage. I Would Put Synthetic In It And Change It Every 5000 Miles.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
True, but 1500miles is never in need of change either way.
Oil in today's market is pretty amazing stuff and it won't degrade sitting in the oil pan for one year. Hell I just took a look at an oil analysis from a 1999 porshe that still had its factory fill and 25000 miles on it and the oil was still good. It needed a change, but the engine was not being hurt at all.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
i am talking about non-synthetic oil. porsche's use synthetic oil and they also have 10.25 quarts to assure its quality. i doubt with 25k it has its original oil because we change them every 7500 miles. i agree 1500 miles is to soon for an oil change but my arguement is that regular oil deteriorates over time and not just mileage.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
True, but if synthetic can go that long with that many miles, I don't think conventioanl will be failing out at 1 year and 1500miles.

synthetic and regualr oil is like comparing apples to oranges. there is no comparison. true, 7500 mile interval oil changes is alot but what your forgetting is that the porsches hold 10.25 quarts of synthetic. most cars hold an average of 5 quarts so to be safe you will change it at 5000 miles.

Re: oil change....time vs. millage
Don't think that they are too different, conventioanl motors oils are pretty damn good today and they just recently went through yet another design upgrade.
A 4 quart conventioanl oil change is good for at least 5000 miles with no problems. People have done oil analysis on this and it is true. Visit here and check it out for yourself. http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...?ubb=forum;f=3
