spark plug 1 and 2 differnt from 3 and 4?

AGSF-34EE**

** If a spark plug is removed for inspection, it must be reinstalled in the
same cylinder. cylinders 1+2 have an "EG" suffix. Cylinders 3+4 have an "E" suffix. If a spark plug needs to be replaced, use only spark plugs with the same service part number suffix letter "EE" as shown on the engine decal.

Right out of the owners manual. What is the difference and reason to use a differnt plug in 2 cylinders?

I saved the original facotry plugs.

#1+2 agsf34eg red top
#3+4 agsf34e while top

why are they colored?

***update*** called ford and they said they no longer add the two different plugs and to use AGSF34FMF4 (autozone number 4104) 3.99 each (they dont say platunm but have the blue rings around the ceramic

Re: spark plug 1 and 2 differnt from 3 and 4?

I'm not too sure, but I would take a guess that it's because the coil pack is divided into two coil's. Two plug's for every one coil.

I'm using aftermarket plug's, all 4 are the same and the car run's fine.

Not sure why they do that...just get the autolight 5144s(look them up, I think that's the right numbers). They are NON-Platnum plugs and they run great. About 1.50/plug(if that) I have them in my 91 with the 1.9 and its running well with them in there.

Motorcraft Platinums here, the EE is what it says to get, but there was a replacement on those at AutoZone, so I got those...and they work great. gapped to .054 all around.
