Blazer performance

What are some really effective upgrades that i can do to my 96 blazer that will boost some good performance. I was looking into a supercharger kit but they are really pricey, do you know of any where that i can possible pick up a used one, could I instead of getting a new ECU to control the larger injectors if i get forced induction do you think a SAFC controller would work? Another thing i was wandering would the syclone or typhoon motor fit in my engine bay or possibly just putting the manifold and turbo system on my blazer?

Re: Blazer performance

Used superchargers can be bought, but I wouldn't trust them.

Do the basics first. I can tell by your post that you are quite young. Learn the basics of making your truck better before you go to forced induction.

1.) Performance Muffler
2.) Performance Cat
3.) Cold Air intake.

Always upgrade your exhaust b4 you install an intake.

If going with that kind of power and $ why not get a side kick like a stang or something with the big v8, alot more ez to get the power.
i have a buddy that super charged his 4.3 and had a lot of problems afterword.
i was happy with my blazer just exh. & cold air, and spacer for the tbi,
and a cupple other minor things i'v done.

Re: Blazer performance

I dont see what my age has to do with anything, and i know plenty of info on forced induction i owened and rebuilt a 12 sec dsm. I all ready have full exhaust with a FM40 and i have a custom cold air intake with a k&n filter. "blazing" i would get a mustang but i dont really want two cars, but I do love those fox bodies, my dad wants me to get a bike so i might take him up on that but there are alot of dumb drivers that i dont really want to come along with on the road on a bike.

Re: Blazer performance

For the price of building a fast blazer, you can buy a mustang which is meant for speed.

A blazer is a SUV, period, not a race machine.

Re: Blazer performance

NA = Normally Aspired

Normally aspired is standard intake whereas forced induction is turbo or supercharging.

Re: Blazer performance

What is the chevy truck 5.7 hp rated at anyways? It seems like the 4.3 isn't much less powerful than a 5.7. Certainly their gas milage isn't much different. The newer vortec 5.3s are sweet though.

Very true.

5.7 TBI are not as powerful as you think.

I think this is a bunch off teenage kiddy bragging hence the I smoked people and racing etc......

Actually I just bought a 5.7 Vortec MPFI from a 99 escalde. 265 hp stock. Once the cam is changed (rcs did the specs for the build up and they will do the tuning and throw it on the engine dyno) and a few other minor things, we should be able to squeeze out around 300 out of the engine. Installation is fairly straigt forward. Use a 96/97 blazer harness, change the injector connector on the harness, use a 96/97 k1500 ecm and a few other odds and ends. (custom programming is also needed on that ecm to make the abs work properly unless you want to eliminate the abs)

So do you actually have it installed yet? I've heard that 96 vehicles use a seperate abs module from the ecm. I've got no beef with the newer 5.7's, but the performance of some others is poor in my opinion.
