Totally destroyed....

I know this might sound a bit like BS, but ya'll are just gonna need to take my word for it.

I have my last final in about an hour, and I was really stressin, so I decided to go out for a bit of a drive to clear my head, calm down, and get ready to compare Plato to Zakaria, and Moore to Machiavelli...

Anyways, I'm hoping on the highway, just for a quick high speed run, and as I do so, I see a greyish looking car in my rearview, and its moving fast. I decide to gear down into third, hold around 60, and hopefully get this guys attention. He doesn't seem to be slowing down as hes comming up on me, and I cant really tell what car it was...till he flew by doing a buck easy. A nice, clean Aston Martin, not sure if it was a Vantage or a Vanquish, but it was one of the new sporty ones. 2 doors, fast, and amazing looking. I, of course, jump on it right away, and give into the most onesided persuit ever.

The 'chase' lasts all of five seconds before the driver in the Aston Marti realized that I wanted to go. I think he was laughing as he slowed down next to me. I look over, and give him a thumbs up. He laughs, an older guy, and nods. We drop down to 60, and I honk us down.

Amazing is the only word I have to say for the sound of that thing. I didn't even stand a chance as he just gunned it, and disapeared...Wow. I want one now. Like, this second. If you have one, come give it to me. After maybe a second or three, he was already a bus length or five on me. He slowed back down, and I looked over and gave him a thumbs up, and the biggest shit eating grin ever. Now thats a death.

Re: Totally destroyed....

Yeah good luck with your final. As for being blown away. I have faced the back end of one too many cars in my racing days. But an Aston Martin is a death I would take any day. Just to see one is a very rare opportunity for anyone. Lucky you!! Late...

Two 3.0L duratec's (same motor in Taurus) put together to make a V12. Very sweet indeed.

There is no shame in losing to a car much faster than yours.

Re: Totally destroyed....

Wow, those cars are hot. The best, well actually fastest thing i've seen on a highway was an Acura NSX, doing easily 120. At that point i was driving 75 mph in the fast lane, just cruising, and he went flying past me in a way i can't describe. That car had 0 body roll, he weaved in and out between a couple car like magic.

Still one of the best highway sightings in my life.

Re: Totally destroyed....

Id like a Lotus Elise,
about as expensive as lower end porsche's and that super sexy look (not that porsches arent sexy, i am a huge porsche fan)
190hp
0-60 4.6 sec
0-100 12.9
Top Speed: 150mph

Artic Silver
Touring pack and sport pack that includes:
Leather
Power Windows
Carpet
CD player
7 twin spoke aloy rims
Yokahama tires
adjustable dampers and coil overs

$46,220 shiped to the nearest dealer (58miles away)

ohh, damn sexy.

i wonder if there are any modded ones on the street. couldnt run too much boost, not with the 11.5:1 c/r. the motor is supplied by toyota.

but anyway,
nice, honorable death. i would have caught up to him and asked if he would pull over to check the car out.

Re: Totally destroyed....

The aston v12 is not two taurus engines stuck together. I know one of the three guys who designed it and he told me the story. basically, they needed a quick engine for the unveiling of the car, but the production block wasnt complete yet, so for the media event, they chopped up two v6's and stuck em together. The production engine has nothing to do with the ford. its a myth, based on some truth.

Re: Totally destroyed....

150 acording to the Lotus but highest tested is 148. With a few modifications it could easily brake 150.
ive seen 2 Elises in person one passing us doing about a 1.10 on the interstate crusing at a coold 3-4,000 in 6th probably, and one at a car show where i got to sit in it and everything. i was drooling. it was sitting it its bucket seats that wraped me like a warm blanket and the feel of the shifter and steering wheel that sparked my craving. other cars i would like to own are
Porsche Carrera 911
Mercedes CLK
RedNeck's car.... if i lived out west i would pull some gone in 60 sec. shit and steal it....lol

Heres a direct quote from Terry Haines, the head drivetrain engineer of the CDW-27 platform (Ford Contour, Mondeo, etc) who also worked for Cosworth and now is a retired engineer and has a fully dedicated motorsports to the Ford Duratec engine.

"History lesson (sorry cant resist !) On sept 23 1995,the first V12 6.0L burst into life! Yes it was 2X3.0 V6 Blocks welded together,it was fitted in the Ford 'Indigo' concept car,3 more engines were built in 1995,when he was at Ford, Bernard Ibrahim was the project leader,he now works for Riccardo in Mi,during that time of the V12 development many OEM's supplied prototype parts for the V12(later to be Aston-Martin V12) one of those companys was Benteler in Grand Rapids, who make the existing 2.5 Duratec exhaust manifolds, project engineer at Benteler at that time for the V12 manifolds was....you guessed it ....me! Small world eh! "

If you want to read the full thread you can
here or you can shoot him an email at [email protected]. Im not here to debate your word against mine, but Terry is a very reputable source.

Heres also a direct quote from astonmartins.com

"A V12 engine was first proposed for the Lagonda Vignale Concept car in 1993 although a working unit wasn't in fact fitted to the show car. By 1996, Ford had fitted a working experimental 6.0 litre V12, initially based on a pair of 3.0 litre Duratec V6 units, to a show car they called the Ford Indigo Concept. A further development from this V12 finally appeared in an Aston Martin with the fully road going 1998 Project Vantage. The new V12 was finally installed into a production Aston Martin with the DB7 Vantage in 1999."

EDIT: Btw, I sent Terry an email regarding the engine and whether it was carried over into production.
