Oh man, DO NOT GET THE COUGAR! I REPEAT, DO NOT GET THE COUGAR! I can't speak for the 2001 or 2002 models, but as for the 99 and 00, they're nothing but trouble. I'm currently trying to get rid of my Cougar. After 36K miles, i've had 4 alternators, 3 batteries, and my transmission is now shot. Its a horrible car. These are all reoccuring problems with these years. That's not to exlude the recalls they had on the moonroof (which broke by the way), poor wiring (which was replaced), and fuel pump (which was replaced).

So with that said, i'd be extremely cautious if you're considering the car.
And if you think I just had bad luck, think again. Check out www.fastcougar.com, check around on the problems section. Look at the sticky's, the alternator, fuel pump, and moonroof are HUGE problems with the car.
