I hope that someone here can help me figure out my problem. I am trying to not have to take it to the dealership for diagnosis. Anyway, I have a 2002 grand cherokee, when I have the heat on, the air out of the passenger side still comes out cold. It doesn't matter what I set the passenger temp to. Any clues as to what might cause this?

Re: Re: Re: heater
Yeah no recalls as far as I can remember but from I've read this is a common problem with the plastic doors break and the servos open to far and thats what it reads, so basically the door is broken. I had part of my dash apart and I have to take alot more out to get to it. I believe I will also have to have the ac discharged and remove the heating lines. The part is $125 and I think they give you the bottom half of the heater box but its a real pain to get to. From what Ive read its very time consuming and pepole on here that had it done from the dealer said they paid about a grand to get it done(extened warranty sounds good now). I'll be trying to tackle that this weekend because I'm not pay a grand to get my heater fixed. I'll let you know how I make out..Mike

I get cold air on the driver side and warm air on the passenger side (this just started yesterday). Followed your earlier instructions about codes and got codes: 49, 50, 52, 54 and 55. Any help about those codes and what they mean would be greatly appreciated. I took the negative cable off the battery this morning to reset the computer and that fixed the problem until I started the vehicle for the second, and subsequent times, today - back to cold air driver side and warm air passenger side. Thanks for any help. Just as an fyi: I have a 99 Gr. Ch. Limited with the 4.7. I've already replaced the resistor for the heater (Chrysler part #5012699AA - this allowed the fan motor to work again). The door that regulates the flow of outside air and recirculated air also broke a couple years back and it's now held in place with those little stainless steel "runners" that are found along the sides of some windshield wipers - they did the trick. Thanks again, Dave |

i did the code trick a fiew weeks ago and there were all sorts of flashing codes. in fact, every time i reset the power (fuse trick) i get different codes. also, fyi, i paid about 200 three weeks ago to fix the resistor? i had NO air. now i have air...its just screwed up |

Re: heater
It if helps I had that problem last year as it was a pain to deal with, but in the end it took about 6 hours and saved a ton of money. The servo is overextending, and what happens is the modulator that rotates the blend doors keeps rotating because part of the plastic breaks. This make the system not know where the high and low part area is. So the system shuts that side down and blows cold air. When you take apart the dash board you will have 4 areas to take apart. 1 is the center console, 2 is the dash board skin, this means the radio, upper speakers, glove box and a lot more things to get all the nuts and bolts. 3 From there you will have a skeleton to take out. This skeleton has nuts that secure it on the floor between the steering wheel and on top. This skeleton directs airflow to the correct vents. And final step 4, will require you to take the heater hoses and a/c lines off from in side the engine compartment. You will want to discharge the a/c system other wise I'm sure it will make a nice mess. Then you un screw the nuts from the engine compartment and the few inside. Take the securing clips off the case and separte it. You will find the blend air doors then. Take the modulators off and swap the blend air doors and then put it back together. Do it in 1 day other wise you'll possible for get what goes where. Hope this helps and it will save you well over a grand.

Re: heater
Hello,
I have developed a solution for the jeep grand cherokee heating problem. The usual problem involves the breaking of the blend doors. This occurs more often than any other heat/a.c. issue. My solution is strong, easy to install, and it definitely beats paying the dealer $1800!! For more info please email me: jeepheaterfix at yahoo |
