Manual Gear box - won't change gear in cold weather!!
Hi All,
I have a problem I seem to remember from last year, but that went away. Now it's obvious it had to do with the cold weather. Just this week, it has become a lot colder, and just this week the problem returned, but worse! I cannot change gear smoothly. I have to jam the stick into gear, and often the car will stall if I try to put it into first. It's as if the biting point is further down than I can push the clutch! If I do successfully get it into gear without stalling, as soon as I take my foot off the brake, the truck darts forward (or backwards), again as if the biting point is too far down. This only happens in the cold. In warm-hot weather, it's unbelievably smooth. I had the whole clutch replaced last year and this didn't help. It's noticeably easier to switch into 5th gear than all the other gears. If anyone knows what this could be, I would greatly appreciate some insight, and even more so, how much it would generally cost to get fixed!! Kindest Regards, Stephanie... |

Simple things first: can you certify the fluid level in the clutch fluid reserve is not too low? This sounds like you have or at some time in the past you had let air enter into the circuit and some bubbles are trapped there .
Before looking for anything else, I would bleed the circuit. At same time, check there is not abnormal free play at beginning of pedal action: this can be adjusted. |

Finally, Stephanie, ...what happened with that issue?
