1996 eclipse GST wont stay on

I have a 1996 eclipse gst that has an idleing problem. When the car is started, it will idle for about 5 seconds then it will shut off. What could be the problem?

I have the same problem with my laser rs right now I wish you'd get an answer. Cause that would probably fix my problem too.

Try hooking up jumper cables to another vehicle. If this works to keep it running, it's your alternater and most likely the battery will have been weakened as well.

i think its your ecu. the same exact thing happend to me. could not figure it out.pick one up at the junk yard. you can always sell it on ebay or somthing. my cars battery wouldnt hold a charge. check engine light was reading about 5 things and it would idle at all. ended up changing the ecu after about 10 things.

How come we rarely end up finding out if any of our advice helped? I for one, would really like some more feedback.

I had a problem much like this that i just solved. It was so simple that i want to kick myself for not thinking of it right away.

One of the hoses above the throttle was a bit cracked, which was causing my car to stall whenever i came to a stop. All i did was cut the cracked bit off and refit it, and it works great!

just make sure you check all of your hoses before buying something expensive like an ECU. It may just turn out to be something simple, like a vaccume system leak.
