Pointless update
I am getting a 250$ christmas bonus from one of my jobs.... yay.
The engine is almost paid for... how much do you think it would cost if i wanted to take it to a little shop and have them pull the old and put the new one in?

Re: Pointless update
It depends. I paid $400 to have a local idiot do it. He never quoted me for parts though so add another $400 for every single hose, belts, water pump, valve seals, IM and EM gaskets, etc... GL

Re: Pointless update
400 bucks... thats crazy yo....
Most of the belts and stuff on the old motor are brand new as of february of last year, and the car hasn't run in 3 months... I wonder if he could still use those ones?

The person that lives accross from me knows someone who owns a shop apparently, i wonder if he/she would let me watch himtdo the swap...

Re: Pointless update
What kind of shop should I be looking for to pull out an engine and put one in... All the shops i can find on the internet are for like basic repairs... or sometimes transmissions...
Im not sure what kind of shop would do an entire engine swap.. EDITNESS: I just called a place and they told me that the swap I have is illegal. And that certified shops are most likely not going to do it. bleh..

Re: Pointless update
its a ZC DOHC so its an integra motor a year newer than my car.
it also passed smog He said "At a shop like mine, and most others, we aren't going to want anything to do with cars like that"

Re: Pointless update
For whats its worth, he does have a point in that thats not an american motor, there for it does bring up legality issues in some states, plus its not a motor that is native for that car (in this country, witch is all that matters) and your average shop isnt willing to fool with motor swaps most of the time because it doesnt pay as well as doing other work. I'v read that in california cops have even been cracking down on shops that do motor swaps. As a shop owner myself I can see where they are comming from.

Re: Pointless update
I think I found someone to do it, a friend of a friend who is the sales manager at a shop 15 minutes form here. Says the owner is never there and that this sales manager pretty much runs the show. Said he would do it for 350ish.

Re: Pointless update
aww a present for x-mas. You so lonely buying urself presents oh wait!!! Thats what i do? Okay i have no life, I LITERALLY just got off the phone with hmotorsonline.com. Just ordered a 92-95 SiR-II
engine for my 95 integra Please no comments on why i am putting a b16a-II into a 3rd gen teg. Yeah but 350 JUMP ON IT. Gosh the cheapest price i got to get my twin cam zc put in was 500 bucks not including the wiring. If it wasnt that cheap id say do it yourself. Anyone with knowlege of tools can take an engine out as long as there not stupid and break things. If you dont have the money D.I.Y. not challening. Plus since the zc was put in within the last year the bolts shouldnt be that rusted if any. All you need to do is take your time.- I'd reccomend taking off about 2 days to work straight on it if its your first swap. -Andrew Oh plus all of the belts will work fine. And can be re-used. |
