Slugish GTS-4

I have a 1990 GTS-4 it's been a pretty decent car for the most part. Here's my problem lately when I pulling off from a complete stop I really have to give alot of gas to get going. When I try to accelerate it's really slugish until 3000 RPM's then it takes off like a bat out of hell up to 4000 RPM's. That happnes wether I'm driving it hard or not. I really like my car but I only paid $2500 for it so I'm not about to shell out an ass load of money to get it fixed. But any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

well sounds like the turbo still works, when did it start happening? did you do any mods before it happened or any maintenance? Or did you drive it extra hard? come on be honest about it to everyone does it at one time or another so the more info you can give us on it the easier it will be for us to diagnos instead of playing guessing games.

I haven't made any mods to it whomever had it before me did an HKS air filter and exhaust. it started about a month and a half ago and has been getting worse. I won't lie I've pushed it pretty hard a few times but that's not the norm. I've done the regular maintenance.

i am leaning more towards a fuel filter issue but could be a air filter. Most likely it is your fuel filter have you had any other symptoms besides it getting sluggish.
thanks

My clutch feels like it's getting soft but I'm not sure if it is because something is wrong or I'm just used to it. I was out driving a few weeks ago when i came up on another car. I went to pass and it took longer than I think it should have to accelerate. when I finally got around them I could smell my clutch.

Re: Slugish GTS-4

Find someone you can swap parts with. It does not sound like the fuel filter at all. If the filter is clogged, the car would not take off after 3000rpms.

I would swap your AFM first, check all your intake conections, make sure all the hose clamps are nice and tight.

I just bought a GTSt that had been sitting for over a year and half because the guy did not know anything about cars. And all it was, was the output hose of the I/C was off.

It sounds like a sensor problem. Have you downloaded the manual for the R32 yet? That is a must to have. I learn something new every time I pick it up.

Have you reset the ECU? Take off the neg battery cable for 24hrs, or so. That will reset it. The ECU automatically adds 2* of adv, which kicks butt if you are taking the car to the strip. Of course it will retard over time, and settle in at some point.

Re: Slugish GTS-4

Turns out it was just the clutch going out. Didn't find out until right before I gave it away but all is good now.
