Diecast Quality for Newbies

Hi Everyone,

I had a sudden interest in collecting diecasts. But I've always loved cars. I was wondering how I should start out my collection. I like stock cars and I was going to spend around $300 dollars for 7 AUTO ART cars in scale 1/18. I want my models to have opening doors and trunks and hoods. Do 1/43 open or are they stuck?

Is Auto Art the best quality? And What about Kyosho? Just wondering, because I'm about to order a:

Auto Art:
-S2000 silver
-350Z black
-BMW E46 M3 *black or red? which one should i get, black has nice brown seats
-Porsche 911 red
-Lotus Espirit black
-WRX STi blue

Kyosho:
-Z4 burgundy

I was going to reconsider the Z4 if people think that Kyosho is not good. And get the BMW E30 M3 instead.

These are my dream cars. I'd appreciate any information I can get because I know you all know more than me!

Thanks!

Welcome to AF! Glad to have you here.

As far as I know, Autoart and Kyosho are good in quality as well as Minichamps, Lane, and GMP. If you really want to see a difference between those two, I'd suggest you get the M3 CSL. They're both good and they each have their own touch on them.

I dont get whats bad about Maisto. They look ncie, ahve shocks, ncie paints jobs. And the are 20 bucks. I say buy a couple of them! lol

Autoart has the best quality and is the msot expensive. YOu spend your money the way you wish.

Welcome
if ur into stock cars http://www.diecast-pub.com/forums2/ is more specialized than we are. also, some of the Aa cars you listed can be found at www.Mikes-Racing-and-Diecast.com for under $40 a pc. (very good deal).

As far as starting a collecting, if ur serious about collecting then you stay with the list you have. Aa and kyosho are popular among collectors for their high quality and it's worth every penny. if you just want a few pieces to display in ur office, or bed room then miasto and HW are good enough. dont worry about investing in high quality diecasts b/c you can always dump it on ebay at cost or more. i dont think it's that hard to sell Aa, kyosho, Minichamps, Lane, and GMP if you decided not to keep them down the road. for example, those UT models (near Aa quality), aprox. $27-$50 two yrs ago, are now selling atleast $80-$200+ on ebay. im glad i got me a few while they were in production. check out this auction for this $27 UT porsche.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ADME:B:WN:US:1

see what im saying? i would'nt sell my UTs, but it good to know that ppl are paying an arm and a leg for it now

Re: Re: Diecast Quality for Newbies

Maisto and Hot Wheels usually have basic models and sometimes lack the finer details. If you know the car its noticeable but for most of us it doesn't matter too much. If you want to read some reviews head over to www.diecastxchange.com, go into the forums and look for the reviews section, it has alot of opinions and photos.

If you compare a Maisto car to an Autoart or Kyosho you'll notice all the little differences like carpeting, paint, body shape, etc. Both Autoart and Kyosho have excellent models, you can't go wrong with them. You'll always be pleased with the higher quality they offer.

Re: Diecast Quality for Newbies

Thanks for agreeing.

I havent seen one model with carpet? is it real? is it ncie? i wanna see one!

BTW: I saw maisto is way nicer than Hot Wheels. Hotwheels, on their Ferrari, the front wheel its like an inch wide. I mean, a FERRARI!, it should have wide wheels.

What do you mean by that G35? They have a little fuzzy carpeting where you would expect to find it on the floor of the cars. I think it adds alot to the interiors of diecasts because most of them lack the look and feel of real cars.

Ok, the real reason is that it's fun to rub.

This is from the Autoart STi. The seats and the trunk feel the same way.
