94 Z34 idle issue

k ive got a 94 Z34 and when i start i it surges while idling.... i suspect a vacuum leak but i was wondering if anyone could tell me the most problematic and first areas to check... also i have gotten rid of the air box and thrown in the cone to get better flow... could this be causing the surging? would the MAF be reading wrong because of this? and to answer questions b4 i get asked.... yes it does this after it has warmed up, yes it us worse on colder days and initial morning starts, and as an update... i havent replaced the alternator, but it seems to be doing fairly well now that i have disconected the fog lamps.... alternator is prbly contributing to this but not to this extent. it drops almost to the point of stalling around 4-500 rpm and then back to like 1500... thanx in advance.....

You clean the IAC and throttle plate yet? Both will cause excess air at idle if dirty.
