Question Stuck in Park

My car is a 2001 (and only 33K miles), it is an automatic and it is stuck in park, brake lite stuck on as well. Transmission fluid is fine I just cant get it in gear. Anyone have any ideas for me to try before i have to have it towed and spend an arm and leg on it??

Re: Stuck in Park

Sounds like something narfed up in the brake/shift interlock relay or switch. Look up at the top of the brake pedal, and you may see the problem.

The shifter won't move, correct?

Re: Stuck in Park

Hey man,
I just had the same problem and it was the shift-interlock relay that hosed up on me.
You can bypass the interlock by finding the hole next to the shifter and pop out the tab. Then just stick a screw driver to disengage the lock.

Hope this helps!
