90 caravan- oil dilution

First post:

Bought a 90 caravan with 220 k. 2.5/5 speed. Had a few probs. Had to change the fuel tank sock on the side of the road. And then changed the oxygen sensor and it ran like a top. Torquey little engine. Got a diesel-like power band. So I had oil dilution, and when it started running good I thought that was all cleared up. On a long trip it happened again. The only thing I could see that I did differently was that I let it warm the whole car up one freezing morning. I haven't let it idle cold since and it hasn't happened again. My question is then, is it just a lack of compression and fuel blow-by when it is cold? or is the computer doing something it shouldn't? any ideas..

More on this car:

Seems to run out of pep at high altitude. Shouldn't the computer compensate for that???

Re: 90 caravan- oil dilution

The computer probably isn't the thing causing this. If I had to guess I would say it would have to be on the lines of possibly your oil pump. I don't know if there is a module on or around it but if there is have it check if not I would have to say that the oil pump is giving to much compression or not enough! That's my take. Hope this helps. Happy oiling!

Re: 90 caravan- oil dilution

Another problem and maybe more likely now that I think about it. You said that you had oil dilution done. That may be the problem with it in colder temps. Its running to thin and chilling a bit and when it gets warm it would then be gunky and harder! Check your oil when it is cold and see if it is chilled over and visually measure the thinness of it. Later when it is hot check it again and look for thickness and any gunkiness. Again hope I helped!
