OK,I got a way to hide a turbo...u will think im crazy lol!! i am!!

Ok, If you dont want to hide your turbo because u dont care then i guess you shouldnt read this, but this plan will help you pass the visual at the smog station, and if you get pulled over the cops will look under the hood and "what turbo officer?!"

Installing the Turbo in the rear of the car by the LSD. So you keep your stock header or a aftermarket better flow header, then you run your exhaust all the way to the rear, then you had a custom made flange to bolt the turbo on. Then you get a custom downpipe to complete the full exhaust, or just get a muffler and have a custom downpipe connecting straight to the muffler.

Then you get a pipe to run the air filter to the side, and it will be much cooler at this spot than anywhere near the engine. Also the turbo at this location will be at a cooler spot for better spooling.

The you run the intercooler pipe from the turbo all the way to the front and then up to the intake manifold.

You cover up the intercooler with mesh grill and paint the pipe that goes to the intake black, or leave it polished.

The intercooler pipe going from the turbo can be routed on either side of the car depending on wich side of the intercooler u want to go to the intake manifold... i drew it on the passanger side, but i think it would be better if it runs on the driver side and then comes up from the intercooler with a short up pipe.

This project will take some work but it will be cheaper than buying a kit i think. Plus the pipes that run to the intercooler can just be bought from an exhaust shop or something. I have read about this in some mag.

The downfall could be is that the exhaust will be cooler at the read of the exhaust pipe compared to the header so you will lose a little amount of HP.

If this is a good idea then it can easily be visually passed and the cops wont know better, and since the intercooler wont be in view you are perfectly legal to their eyes

here is a little chart i drew up , my artistic skills are amazing, dont have to tell me haha...

let the critisism begin!!!

hahahahaha. it wouldnt be as powerful though, you will lose a LOT of heat in transit. the efficiency of the turbo would be quite a bit less way back there. the purpose of all the thermal tape around the manifold is to keep as much heat in as possible until after the turbo, so a very small amount of energy (heat) is allowed to escape. heat is the downfall of our engines. if someone can design an engine that is more thermally efficient, retaining almost all energy that is now lost as heat, they would be a billionare.

i think i said it WOULD lose some HP lol... thats the only downfall of this, so you boost up the PSI just a bit and you are ready to go... why dont you take your front wheel drive somewhere else!! haha (i know this noob) hes the guy who wants to race me and get owned!!

and you can pull your engine and then wrap it with that heatshield material from Home Depot to keep the warmth in, and you are on your way to your billionare dreams, but then the cooling will have to be improved so that would be another prob...

but lets not talk about cooling off engines but concentrate more on this awesome turbo set up!!!

Then you make sure you got some fat tires so you can have more grip so you can speed away from the smoke faster!! plus thats why they make filters... like when front wheel drive cars burn out ...

That's the worst idea ever. Unless the motor is in the trunk then that setup is complete ass. The turbo should be as close as possible to the exhaust ports to work off the engines heat not just the airflow.

the point if this set up is to hide the turbo... i live in Cali so if i put a turbo on , the next cop will impound my little baby... so HP sacrifice is well worth it if i can just turn up the PSI to 10 instead of 6-7 and still have he HP i was looking for

you would have sooo much mother fucking lag, you'd probably kill urself. the shorter the distance from the turbo to the intake, the faster the spool. keep thinking though, i would say to try to hide it under your engine somewhere, not under the engine itself but you could make something to cover it

Re: OK,I got a way to hide a turbo...u will think im crazy lol!! i am!!

Actually On A Camaro The Lag Is Minimal.... And The Kit Is Turely Designed For And Extra Boost Of Power Not For Making Serious Power.

Its Actually Pretty Good As I Have A Buddy With The Sts Kit On His Ls1 Camaro. And To Solve The Heat Loss Issues You Can Coat The Exhaust Piping With Jethot Or Hpc And It Keeps Almost 100% Of The Heat In The Piping Rather Than Dissapating It In The Metal.

There Are Skeptics For Every Idea..... I Always Say Try It.

do you have any idea how laggy that turbo is goin to be? you will lose a ridicous amount of power and boost response.

i thought having 6 feet of intercooler pipes is bad. damn!! i having 6 feet of exhuast manifold is worse. sorry GT but this is the dumbest idea i've seen. it reminds me of someone who asked about how a car would be if it was a rear engien front wheel drive.

anywas the best way to hide a turbo is to use a equal lenght turbo manifold with a low mounted turbo. then the manifold would just look like a header and the turbo is practically invisible.

you see this? no turbo in site

heres a upclose pic of it, still no turbo in site even if your looking for it.

Re: OK,I got a way to hide a turbo...u will think im crazy lol!! i am!!

do any of you guys read import tuner or any of those car tuning magazines?????? they did an article on that they called it remote located turbo. (or something like that im not sure it been awhile) anyway....... there where some up sides to it yes it wasnt as high of boost but they addeed something(i think) to help boost the boost (couldnt think of another way to word it) but i do remember ONE THING they did it to a fwd car not a 240 or any other rwd car and the simple fact is cause LOGIC it has been stated before but anytime you do a burn out not only would you fill the filter with smoke but you would also completly clog it with tiny pieces of rubber. but you could still make it work by moving the filter forward but by then you would have more piping under you car then the waste system of a five star hotel!!!!!!!!! it wouldnt even be worth the cost ....... but wait theres more a friend of mine just had a local machine shop just curl the piping for his turbo off the manifold down and under the engine out of sight then if you still wasnt happy just cut a piece of metal and mount it over and around your turbo hiding it from sight but thats only if you care soooooo much to hide it ...... just my thought but iM No t tat sMerT NEYwaY
