ipod set up for aurora

I really want to get an ipod and I was wondering how much it would be to get a deck or whatever you wanna call it for the ipod to play in my aurora (I have the bose acoustimass system)

I dont want the FM transmitter if the installation is reasonable with the price.

The easiest would be to put a cassette adapter in and plug it in the ipod, audio quality is better than FM.

Many aftermarket head units have AUX in you just have to look for it, however the fact that you have the bose system you will have to buy something that converts the new head unit to work with the Bose...I would urge you to get a deck instead of the tape adapter, the sound quality is not very good, but that option would be much cheaper.

Re: ipod set up for aurora

If your going to use the OEM deck, I see few options. A new deck would sound much better, but replacing the Bose system is not plug and play.

Re: ipod set up for aurora

If your keeping the BOSE its nearly impossible to just replace the deck. If you take EVERYTHING out, speakers, sub, deck you can start over and really kick, but you will lose some DIC functions.

If you do that however you'll also have to rewire everything.
I'd go with the cassette adapter if you're happy with the BOSE sound.

Re: ipod set up for aurora

I am happy with the factory bose sound, I dont wanna pay over 150-$200 just for installation

I just dont want my system to sound worse than it is, because people say the quality isnt as good (those people dont have the bose system though) so I dont know what to do

so if the cassette adapter is better than the FM tuner thing then I might as well get that.

They were selling this kit that goes into my cigarette lighter, is that the FM tuner kit. It was about 100 bucks.

thanks for the info

Re: ipod set up for aurora

The BOSE system sounds good. My brother has it in his eldorado. Better than the non-bose by a long ways. The tapeadapter will be better than the FM for sure.

The Bose system gets weak when you really want to crank. Until that point it sounds great. For my taste its lacking in bass on the top end. If I remember correctly the deck starts to limit the bass from the sub at high volume to avoid distortion.

For the $15 or less the tape adapter is a great choice just to try.

Re: ipod set up for aurora

Wow there's a broad subject. Since I don't have a $10,000 system (you could spend that much) I won't give you much for quotes. I can tell you for an average joe system (Sony/Infinity )like I have in my Grand Am, installed yourself, would cost about $1000 for those brands midrange components.

If you just want to firm up the bass without a complete amp/sub setup, the infinity basslink makes a good addition, though I don't know if it will interface with the bose.

You won't win any sound competitions but it is a good bang/buck. If you get it off ebay.

That system includes a Sony deck, Infinity component speakers in the front, +6.5s in the doors, 6x9's in the rear deck, Sony amp, Infinity Basslink, Puts out about 110 clean db. With quality better than my bro's Bose.
