Unhappy Transmission Shot??

I have an 01' Explorer Sport 4x4. My car was running a little shaky for the past 6 months but nothing was really unusual. Once I hit 53k I had the transmission flushed and replaced with new fluid. (I have been told lately that that was a terrible idea). Anyway, the minute after I got that done the trasmission started slipping. At about 40mph, it will jump up to 3000-4000 RPMs and rev like crazy. I have noticed that this is mostly on take-off. Also, this morning on my way to work, I was driving about 25 in my neighborhood and it jumped up to 3500RPMs and then my O/D switch started flashing. I turned my car off and restarted it and it worked fine, but kept slipping. Also, this afternoon I was trying to show a friend of mine the problem, and as I accelerated to 60mph, I noticed that it stayed around 1500PRMs but seemed to be struggling to gain speed. If you could possibly tell me what is wrong with this damned car, and how much it will probably cost to fix, I would really appreciate it.

Re: Transmission Shot??

I have a 2000 xls. I just spent $1800.00 getting it rebuilt. The overdrive band as well as the intermediate band were shot. I had them rebuilt the whole thing and, guess what, it is still doing the same thing. It revs to 3000 rpm b/w 2nd and 3rd.

Jessica,

Sounds like the tranny shop is the problem, not the Explorer. Has the shop looked at it since you noticed the problem? They quite likely screwed something up while they were flushing the system. And, yes, it shouldn't need a power flush for many, many more miles than 53K. A simple pan drop and filter change at 60K is enough.
