head torque

whats the heads bolt torque on a 90 super coupe i really need the knowledge thanks

there is a 7 step torque sequece, i just did a set of heads on a 90 SC.... let me see if i remember
step 1 37
step 2 45 lbs
step 3 52 lbs
step 4 55 lbs
step 5 59 lbs
step 6 loosen all bolts 2 -3 turns
step 7 55 lbs

this is from memory, but it sounds right.....

i dont know the exact reason to do it that way, but i beleive it to be so the head dosent warp.. or something... here is the bolt order:

5 1 3 7
6 2 4 8

and in that sequence i listed above.

these are out of a Haynes bood for the t-bird...I just looked it up

The reason is to prevent warping. FYI Ford recommends using new bolts due to torque retention variations in old bolts. Bolt #7 is the front bolt near the valve spring. Bolt #8 is the front outside one next to the spark plug. When you loosen the bolts and retorque do it to one bolt at a time. Don't loosen them all at once. Retorque each bolt to 48-55 ft. lbs and then rotate an additional 90-110 degree's. This is per the MOTOR professional service trade edition manual. They also say to use new bolts and to use a thin coating of pipe sealant w/Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent on the SHORT cylinder head bolts ONLY.
