Extended GM Warranties And Struts

I think I need new struts for my car. I have the GM Major Guard extended warranty on a 1999 Chev Monte Carlo with about 75k miles and as far as I can tell, struts are covered. However, I'm not sure if by "strut" they mean the spring part, the cartridge part, or the whole thing.

Does anyone know what is covered under Major Guard regarding struts? The Major Guard warranty says it covers parts for wear and tear, excluding most regular maintanence things, so if struts are covered, are they only covered if they leak?

The warranty specifically says it covers McPherson struts, like I have.

http://www.gmppdirect.com/mic/direct...r_coverage.jsp

Yet they also say that shock absorbers are not covered (which I can understand). I have a feeling GM may claim that the cartridge (an integral component of the strut) is a shock absorber when the terminology calls it a strut.

http://www.carbuyingtips.com/car6.htm

"Are my Macpherson struts covered by the extended warranty?
The better warranties do cover Macpherson struts, but not the inserts. These inserts can be thought of as shock absorbers, and thus no one covers the inserts because they are a normal maintenance item, added to the exclusion list of items covered."

I think GM may be deceptive in this area and may be misleading people into thinking that struts are covered when they are not. "Can be thought of as shock absorbers" is a gray area. They are called struts, so they should be covered, right?

If anyone has any experience or knowledge regarding this, please provide feedback.

Thanks.

GMPP policies are driven by a claim number which is the same as the GM warranty labor operation number..you can ask the dealer to call it in with the labor operation number and they can tell you if it is covered.
