Too much work to bother with?

I've been looking around at some Eclipse GSX, and they seem very rare around here.

Found a few stock ones with about 50k miles on them (97-99), but all I can seem to find is automatics.. is it worth it to buy an auto and convert it to manual? Or should I just hold out til I find a decent 5-speed. I'm not very versed in how to do swaps like that so I'd probably have to get a dealership or a shop to do it for me.

Re: Too much work to bother with?

i dont think its worth it, my reasoning in purely cost. but there are some fast automoatics out there ...everyone makes automatics look worse than they really are...

Patience is a virtue, wait till you find a five speed. It would be wiser to use that money toward performance or cosmetics then doing an auto to manual conversion.

I have the same exact problem.. i was searching for a GSX the other day... found like 4 of them with low miles and a pretty decent price but they were All automatics... Finding a decent GSX is hard enough but to actually find 4 to 5 of em and them being automatics....pretty crazy

Re: Too much work to bother with?

I would say no, not worth it. Yeah, you can make an auto fast. But in my opinion, I would rather have a 5 speed, waaaaay more fun to drive. It seems so boring to drive an auto...

Re: Too much work to bother with?

with an auto you just need to replace more stuff. Torque Converter, shift kit... things like that. and putting lots of power and stress on it is going to shorten the life considerably.
