"Saw Stop"

I read how they work and it seems pretty simple, but watching these videos in action still amazes me.

No more lost fingers

Re: "Saw Stop"

I'm glad that there is something like this out. I know a few people missing fingers as a result of saws.

Re: "Saw Stop"

Me too, and supposedly these are relatively cheap so they'll start making their way into school woodshops

hmm now they just need something like that for nailguns. I actually know more people who have shot nails through fingers etc, than people who cut fingers off with saws.

However i suppose i would rather shoot a nail through a finger (I have) and onlynot be able to use it for a month or so than cut a finger off and never have it back.

Ricochet is there a page that describes in more detail how it works? all i found was the page telling about the electricity etc. but in the video it appears as if something jams up into the blade to stop it... I can't imagine this being good for the saw, and was wondering if there was anything explaining that aspect of the device.

Re: "Saw Stop"

Wow. The guy who invented is probably going to make a lot of money if it truly works.

Yeah, if you read the site more, when it senses contact with a body part, it cuts the power to the motor and jams a brake into the teeth of the blade. The brake thing is a cartridge that can be replaced after it is activated.
