Re: cant get started

You have to adjust the CAS (left hand side of the head on the intake cam). Adjust it clockwise aways and see if it starts then. Get a timing light before you mess up your motor! Time it correctly.

www.vfaq.com - use it!

Re: cant get started

thanks for the advise and smart a$$ comment about using www.vfaq.com but i have already tried adjusting the cas. i have done several rebulids on the 2.0 turbo & non. what ever the problem is not as simple as that. If you dont know how to adjust the timing you shouldnt be rebuilding them.

Re: cant get started

Well you're obviously doing something wrong. When you set the timing belt did you make sure the dowel pins on the cam gears were both facing up. When you rebuilt the motor, did you make sure the plate with the timing mark that goes between the balance shaft gear and the timing belt gear on the crank was on the right way (yes it can go on both ways if you are not paying attention). Those 2 things can make it not run, basically I am aiming towards the dowel pins, seeing as it is not running but back fireing, which means its probably 180 degrees off. These are both easy mistakes to make. So I would check those first seeing you have both spark and fuel!

And about the VFAQ comment. I was being serious, not a smart ass!

Re: Re: cant get started

the cams gears are right, it has a set of adjustable cam gears that make it clear which side is up. i am now at the point where it is time to start taking things apart to start double checking timing, and other things that i know how they are supposed to be to make sure i didnt make a mistake, i was hoping someone might have an idea to check somrthing that was easy before i started tearing things back apart.
