Busted fork seals
Went out this past weekend & did some hard riding on my WR 400. I busted one of the fork seals, there is oil coming out from the seal. I have the forks off. Is it a difficult job to replace the seals, or should I take the forks in and have it done by a mechanic. How much does a job like this cost$$$$$

I dont know how much it would cost but I have the same problem on my CR250.

call some local shops. I'm not so sure how much it costs, but I am certain it is not overly expensive to have done because my tightwad friend had it done to his bike.
Fork seals don't 'break' unless they are very very old and brittle or have been exposed to extremes of temperature, again making them brittle. What they do is wear out and start leaking, which requires replacement. Or, they get some dirt stuck up inside of them causing them to leak, which might be able to be fixed by taking them apart and cleaning them out, or, if you're lucky, you can sometimes just work the dirt out of them by using a plastic card (thin like a business card). Slip the card between the seal and the tube and work it up and down as you work your way around the tube. Sometimes this will get a piece of dirt out that was casuing a leak and will negate the need to even take the fork off the bike. Good luck.

no problem... pass it on to the next guy with a leaky fork (and what worked for you) to the next guy and we'll call it even.

how old is the bike?
if it has a few years on it, it might be worth it to send the fork out to someone like factory connection to get it rebuilt from the ground up to fit your riding type style and weight. it costs 170 to have it done and it comes back perfect

having your forks re-worked is definitely nice if you can afford it. changing the seals yourself is not too hard if you stay organized and have a clean work space. i just switched out the seals on my Cr250, took about an hour and a half. the only difficult part is seperating the fork tube from the slider.
