Advice needed - 2001 Denali - low mileage, high hours
I am looking at purchasing a 2001 Yukon Denali. It was a security vehicle at work and currently has 15,000 miles on it. However, we estimate there may be close to 8,000 hours on the vehicle. My questions are:
How does the number of hours translate into miles? Other than parts outside the engine (i.e. HVAC, alternator, etc.) what should I be concerned about? Would the high hours sway you from looking at a truck like this? Estimated cost will be $18-20K. Last edited by dg8911; 12-13-2004 at 09:12 AM. |

Dang that truck must have been doing quite a bit of idling; 8000 hours is almost 11 months of continual 24x7 operation. Even if the engine was running just 8 hours a day, that's about 2.7 years worth of engine operation if run everyday during that time. I have almost 14K miles on my '04 DXL and I'm almost pretty sure that it doesn't have even 1000 hours of operation.
Granted that you said that it was a security truck, I guess it shouldn't be too surprising to hear that it has that many hours on it, but still--8000 hours on a 15K mile truck? |

8000 hours
We estimated that it ran for at least six hours a day for four years. 2 hours for each shift change and it was purchased in the fall of 2000.
Final listing price is $21,730, I bit high I believe. |

Hi : I believe Id keep looking, the price is no bargain , the engine has basically been broken in while idling and you gotta figure some donut munching athlete has been riding that drivers seat for 8000 hrs too. yup Id keep looking..........Good luck, Mike
