Venture Warner Bros VCP removal

2001 Venture - how do I remove the VCP console so that the radio bezel may be removed. The radio bezel has 4 screws (2 of which can't be reached with the VCP console in place thanks to the cup holder). VCP console is very loose, but not coming out. Any clues? Thanks in advance.

Re: Venture Warner Bros VCP removal

The key to removing the VCP center console is to first loosen the VCP so you can slide it back. It is held in place by two plastic fasteners (way under and facing up) and two 7mm metal screws (way in the back and facing down). Use a small pry bar to remove the fasteners (I used a mini Stanley wonder bar). The two 7mm screws are impossible to reach until you pop the auxilliary module loose (that small rectangular electrical component). It is held by velcro to the top of the VCP, but is very tight. Once that is loose it can be moved around to get those two down facing 7mm screws out (I used a 1/4 rachet). Once you can slide the VCP back, there are at least 4 more 7mm screws to be removed - 2 way in the back and 2 way down and under inside the small storage compartment. At that time, the whole console can be moved from side to side without having to competely remove the VCP, allowing access to the 2 remaining radio bezel 7mm screws (facing up) behind the cup holder tray so the radio bezel can be removed.

Now that all of that has been accomplished we can enjoy the 12 CD/MP3 JVC changer from Crutchfield that plays via a modulator on 88.1 on the stock FM radio.
