Re: wuts this?

Yes, but you can just clamp it to the new filter. It should work fine. Good Luck.

Likely it senses the air temp inside, so you should remove the temp sensor from the old air filter housing and relocate it inside the new filter housing. So you may need to drill a hole in the rubber or plastic tube and be creative about how to mount it.
Make sure you have a good plan for this before you start drilling into your new filter tube.

Re: wuts this?

no, that is the engine temp thermostat. this reads intake tempature. vehicle ECU's are becoming increasingly more complex and advanced. a/f ratios are not being calculated not only by volume of air going into the engine but also density (tempature). it wont hurt much if you dont install it in the intake but the ECU needs to see that signal or you will get a pesky check enigne light and possibly a lean or rich A/F mixture. but not horribly bad A/F mixture. just put it in the intake post air fliter pre flow sensor and you should be fine.

Edit:
ive made most corrections, sorry about the spelling, i never could spell and throw my bad typing into the mix and lazyness to not check my self and you have one screwed up post.

Re: wuts this?

Wow. You need some serious spell-check help.
But, beside that, what you've read above is what you should do.
