Exclamation What Is A "formula" ??????

Thanks to everyone who attempted to answer my question earlier!!!
( What is the difference between a regular firebird 2 door coupe, and a "Formula" Firebird? )

I had some replys that explained the differences between the Formula and Trans-Am. That's NOT what im looking for here!

The year of car Im wondering about is a 1973

According to the NADA there are 4 or 5 kinds of Firebirds.
1) 2 Door Coupe
2) "Formula"
3) "Esprit"
4) Trans-Am
5) ???
6) ???

HOW DO I KNOW IF IM BUYING A FORMULA OR JUST A REGULAR 2 DOOR COUPE???

The difference in the value of the cars is about $2000.00 and Im wondering this:
What is the difference between the #1) 2 Door Coupe & #2) "Formula"

Thanks for any and all information you may have!!!!

well, ive noticed many places and price books list cars that either don't really exist or duplicate the same car but use a diff name. Or, they might call a car with some minor factory add ons a completly diff name just differentiate. The only way to really know is do alot of homework on that year just to make sure you don't get screwed.

Re: What Is A "formula" ??????

The 73 formula had a column shift,no front spoiler and had formula badges. It should also have a distinct vin number

From what I have learned on the internet today, you are absolutely correct. I found a "Vin Number Decoder" site that gave specifics as to the different types of these cars. Sure appreciate all the advice!!!! GREAT SITE!!!

Re: What Is A "formula" ??????

the other two you are looking for is WS6, and SE.
ws6 is basically on most trans am, a more beefed up suspension, and several other options, and SE is special edition, wich is basically usually another word for appearance package, usually decals, stripes that sorta thing.

Re: What Is A "formula" ??????

oh but a formula is a firebird with usually a 350 or 400, the hood wont have the shaker scoop, it will have nostrills simular to todays ram air scoops on the hood. and most 2 door coupe f-birds didnt have spoilers on the trunk, and doesnt have a tachometer, my dad used to have a 70 trans and it was loaded. had a 400 ram air engine and had a hurst 4 speed.

Re: What Is A "formula" ??????

the formulas were more popular for people ordering a car,so a lot of them ended up unique in one way or another.in 73' they sold more than intended,so a lot of sales were custom backordered cars.
